The ASSAM conundrum - Unabated Ethnic Cleansing Continus

Letter to the National Dailies Date:May 6, 2014.

Dear Sir,

Subject: Apropos " Unabated Ethnic Cleansing in Assam - Tarun Gogoi should take moral responsibility and resign or the President should sack him!"- May 6, 2014.

In Assam, apparently, this kind of violence by the Bodo Extremist, with an aim at ethnic cleansing of the Bengali Speaking Muslims from the Bodo Dominated areas of Assam has become an annual ritual with Mr. Tarun Gogoi, despite being at the helm of affairs in Assam for more than ten years now running a most inept and pathetic show on the law and order front.

The  media is absolutely right in pointing out that the Gogoi government in Assam has miserably failed once again in preventing a massacre of 31 innocent villagers by suspected Bodo extremists in Assam.

While one would like to concur with Mr. Kapil Sibal’s criticism against Mr. Modi’s recent rabble –rousing statement that Bengali Immigrants will have to shortly get ready for getting deported to Bangladesh, that might have in some way emboldened the Bodos in plunging straight away in to this rampaging assault with guns and other lethal weapons on weak and defenceless villagers with full confidence that they would easily get away without any hindrance from Mr. Gogoi’s incompetent, impotent and what has emerged from riot victim’s accounts, a Police Force biased against the Bengali Speaking Assamese and in Particular against Bengali Speaking Muslim Assamese, this attempt at politicizing the issue while the final two phases of the general elections are still to get over, creates a feeling of Déjà vu’ once again, that also gets repeated time and again in Assam at frequent intervals Adnauseum !

The UPA government can’t escape from its culpability in its failure to ensure that a Congress government under Mr. Tarun Gogoi is failing every now and then in preventing this kind of a Directed Violence against the Bengali Speaking Muslim community by the Bodos and other tribal violent groups in Assam and also its failure in getting the “Anti Communal violence Bill” Passed in Ten Years of its rule at the center!

The two National parties should STOP PLAYING this GAME of ‘RIOT POLITICS’ that seems to have become a “Staple Diet” for both the parties from which, one party cynically seeks consolidation of Minority Muslim Votes towards it and the other party, equally cynically and even aggressively seeks consolidation of the Hindu Majority votes for itself!

The need of the hour is, instead of trying to score POLITICAL BROWNIE POINTS OVER DEAD BODIES of INNOCENT INDIANS , they should all , SINCERELY , HONESTLY AND URGENTLY look in to providing ample relief , succor, security and rehabilitation not only for the victims but also ensure that peace returns on a permanent basis to Assam by eschewing Partisan and Divisive politics of polarization for their narrow and expedient political gains.

To conclude, Tarun Gogoi should take moral responsibility and resign or the President should sack him!
